Sunrise Education pioneered an innovative model of student engagement, cultivating grassroots student communities and creating a bridge between them and institutions worldwide.
Sunrise was first started by a pair of American entrepreneurs in 2011 with the dream of bringing English debate to China, quickly grew into a global education company, tapping into a hunger for inspiring and transformational programs and content. As the company grew, Sunrise began to develop separate brands to help international institutions engage Chinese students, hosting tours and events for universities in dozens of cities across China, as well as helping them localize their web, mobile, and social media presence.

Sunny Mewati, Academic Director
Sunny Mewati has an M.S in Economics and Finance from Peking University HSBC Business School, where he completed graduate research on behavioral economics and investor sentiment. While at PHBS, he was a member of the International Business Association and interned at the Chancellor’s Office. Before joining Sunrise, he held roles in strategy, pricing, and sales at two technology startups in Shenzhen. Sunny also has over four years of experience in debate and public speaking, having competed in British Parliamentary debates while studying for his undergraduate degree in engineering.
Jack Zheng, Business League Co-Director
Jack has a M.A in International Business from Florida International University. While at FIU, he was selected as a student ambassador and helped international students transition to academic and student life at FIU. Alongside his academic work, he interned at the Greater Miami Chamber Of Commerce, where he developed strategic business plans to attract new customers and nurture existing client relationships. After graduation, he worked as an associate sales manager in one of the largest international trade companies in Miami. He later joined a boutique travel company as an associate sales manager and created tailor-made luxurious travel experiences for customers.

Lawrence Zhou, Debate League Co-Director
Lawrence Zhou graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Management of Information Systems and minors in Philosophy, Marketing, and Chinese. He has worked as a Lincoln-Douglas Curriculum Director, Social Media Manager, and Director of Publishing at the Victory Briefs Institute. He has coached successful debate programs at Apple Valley High School in Minnesota and The Harker School in California. As a competitor, Lawrence was the 2014 NSDA National Champion in Lincoln-Douglas debate, the national runner up at the 2018 Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl National Competition, and a nationally ranked policy debater on the OU Shannon Self Debate Program.
Nick Caputo, Debate League Co-Director
Nick Caputo graduated with a degree in Political Science/International Relations from Carleton College and now works for the NHSDLC. He competed in Public Forum and Policy debate in high school. He was a State Finalist in Policy and he broke to out rounds at national circuit and championship tournaments.
